What is Music Publishing?
Publishing Music for individuals, groups, and churches can feel like a mystery. When churches decide to self publish they are agreeing to pay royalties to songwriters with 100+ years based on current US law. Alliance Worship has C&MA Publishing where we offer distribution (ie getting your recorded music on Spotify) and publishing (collecting royalties from CCLI and Performance Rights Organizations) to churches and artists associated with the C&MA family. The best part is the royalties that would typically go to a ‘for-profit’ publisher are going to the Great Commission Fund to share the gospel around the world. For churches looking to produce original music, having proceeds benefit the GCF brings even more Kingdom advancement to their music and gives another avenue for creatives to use their gifts to share the gospel.
Should we self-publish our music?
For churches, self publishing is often a waste of internal resources. With accounting , lawyers, and contracts, self-publishing is not worth the time for church staff to pursue. Establishing another entity or even your 501c3 to collect publishing royalties can be difficult for an established organization. As an individual or group there are options for “Admin” deals with ‘for-profit’ publishers, but administrators do not promote and support your churches music and creatives. Alliance Worship is committed to investing in creative, producers, and songwriters in the Alliance family and will promote Alliance Music throughout the world.
What does Alliance Worship offer churches and artist?
C&MA Publishing offers a standard publishing split where artist would retain their portion of the song’s publishing and the publisher would retain the second portion of the publishing. Distribution would be the same split less any additional production costs. A Co-Publishing agreement may be offered and available for those who have an established catalog with over 100,000 streams.
What are the Qualifications for C&MA Publishing?
Churches or artist looking to partner with C&MA must have an affiliation with the Christian & Missionary Alliance and their music must be in theological agreement with the C&MA Statement of Faith. Songwriting and music production quality is a key factor in a songs reaching and ministering to people beyond a local church. Our team can help provide solutions to maintain quality in your creative process. For reference, a quality produced audio recording typically costs $3k+ per song.
